About

The story of Haunted Hill on Possum Holler.

How it Started

Haunted Hill on Possum Holler is a family story. Peter moved to Johnson City from the UK in 2021, and Amanda was born and raised just down the road in Sulphur Springs. When Lennon kept missing Halloween — the holiday has no foothold in the UK the way it does here — they built something small in the backyard, just for him. A few monsters. A little trail. Nothing serious.

What started as one family’s tradition grew into something the whole community claimed as their own. That’s the Hollow. A little bit of British stubbornness, a lot of East Tennessee heart, and one little boy who just wanted to celebrate Halloween.

In 2025, over 650 visitors walked the Hollow. They came from across Tennessee — Johnson City, Knoxville, Maryville — and from as far as Florida, Indiana, New York, and South Carolina. A couple celebrated their wedding anniversary on the Hill. Someone made the drive from Maryville just to see what the Hollow was about. We have followers from the UK and Holland who’ve never set foot in Tennessee but feel like part of the community. That’s what a free Halloween attraction in a small town can do.
